I came across this Volvo V70 T5 that is a total loss. It appears the vehicle needs a new rear windshield, has some hail damage, and a scrapped rear bumper. Pretty minor damage, and mighty tempting at a $500 opening bid.

It has 214,000 kms and will need a safety inspection before being licensed again. I really can't take on another project that will cost me a ton. So, do I bid on this 237 hp wagon and hope glass is all it needs?

The estimate and more photos !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I havent thought about the mid 00's v70 until this week when I saw a black and black tint v70-R at an intersection. so sexxy. Now I'm looking for a V70R and wondering why i didnt get a used one a few years back instead of the used mazda3......

Hmm dirt cheap, very practical, only minor damage, $500 min bid. You could probably buy it and have it fixed up and clean for under $2,000.

Yeah. Horrible idea.

It seems like it would be a cheap, easy fix. And my brother does auto body work and has a shop available. I was hoping someone would say "Those Volvos are money pits. Stay away" :)

They are money pits. Especially when you decide to build them up into race cars.

If your brother does auto body work and can help you with the damage, then all of a sudden it's not that bad an idea anymore...

Just one thing... don't you fear it'll go for 2-3k rather than the opening bid?

Oh, it will most definitely go for more than $500. I can't see it going for less than 1500, but I have seen some great deals in the past. There was a BMW E21 that had a $500 starting bid and went for $800 (I actually checked that one out. It would start but not run. Hail damage my ass!). And I missed out on an xr4ti for $500 a few years ago.
All salvage vehicles have miles on them and wear items will probably have to be replaced before an inspection.
When I look at salvage auctions it's like I'm at a dog pound and want to take them all home and save them from certain death.

I have fallen HARD for Volvos over the last few years. Would love to own one.

Yeah. I had a 79 2-door manual. Was great but costly, for some reason mine was the lemon-ish one....even in color lol. It's what made me sort of scared to have a 10 yer old car or older as a DD. (that and a focus that had sudden problems AT 10 years) so I looked up info on forums on the v70R and It looks soooo good with awd and 300hp....but there's some issues that if they do pop up, I will not be able to afford to fix. I suppose a regular V70 with a nice wheel set and suspension would be the more reliable affordable option.....and look about as good....

There is a 700 series wagon in my area that a guy built....uses s80 wheels and he built the engine into a 2.65 liter 16v for $1500. then put it on boost and does quarters in low 12's high 11's. With leather and AC.
